ALERT: Php Mysqli Vs Pdo
#1
Hello NCTists it's a lovely Saturday the last day of the week and this month Big Grin
I recently installed a script on my local server Wink though not online it's works quite well. However Each time i try to use the mysql function the whole script stops working so i resulted to using PDO and mysqli with which the script works as expected.
When I checked the php.ini file I realised that mysql had been depreciated (PHP 5) and being modded i was asked to make use of MySQL PDO. But the question is what's your preference MySQLi or PDO and why use any of it Big Grin

Personally I'd go for MySQLi because PDO to me is too long though easy to work with Wink

@laive,@deelino,@dealwap,@eddykul,@hackinubee,@spruce,@dynamo,@nostory,@cavdy,@aphatheology Big Grin come in and share your stand

Yeah PDO is kinda long and have too many things to try to remember.... But it is the most secured....

I use MySQLi still learning PDO...

PDO is highly required for server optimization, data security and overall application scalability.
It takes so long to learn simplicity.

Yes pdo is long and little hard to remember? But try to learn it and make a good wrap for it.
I use pdo for all my projects and i make a single pdo wrap that i use in all my projects.
E.g $db->AOG_query() to fetch all rows, $db->AOG_one() to fetch one row, $db->AOG_countcol() to count and many other methods.
Note: that functions is called methods in oop.

PDO is more readable, flexible and has a simple syntax

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MYSQLI AND PDO
- using PDO, one can use any databse such as oracle, phpmyadmin and many more. Buy using MYSQLi, one can use only phpmyadmin.
MYSQLi is an improved version of MYSQL. As a web developer one is advised to use either MYSQLi or PDO to work on his projects and not to use MYSQL because MYSQL is gone and has alot of security issues such as Mysql injections and more.
There is nothing like PDO is better than MYSQLi, PDO is nicer that MSQLi, PDO that, PDO this and more. I just gave u the main difference. As a web developer you can work with any you want because they are all improved versions. The security is up to you, there are sites which uses PDO and are still hacked so don't let any developer decieve you. Learn what you know best and build whatever you want with it, listen to my advice or you will spend more years building your project in the name of joining developers who uses PDO. I know many of you will critize me after reading this post that i don't know PDO thats why or more but am cool with that. If your wise, you will pick something out of my post...
In short, MYSQLi or PDO all nice and secured (its up to you the developer who knows/don't know about security) but no to MYSQL.

"There are many huge social network that started with MySQLi and now have there own version of interacting with their database."
Understand my point here.
