Nigeria Domain Name Now Sells For ₦500
#1
Nigeria Internet domain name prices have been dropped further to an all-time-low entry price of ₦500 to encourage uptake by the Internet community.

Nigeria Internet Registration Association of Nigeria (NiRA), managers of the local Internet name, the .ng, said the price cuts of the Second Level Domain to N500, is expected to encourage uptake of the country’s online identity.

Reverend Sunday Folayan, President of NIRA, dropped this hint while updating Dr. Vincent Olatunji, Acting Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), when the latter paid a visit to the corporate headquarters of NIRA in Lagos.

According to the NIRA President, the reduction in price of the Second Level Domain will enure that Nigeria’s domain name compete favourably with other etablished country domain names.
He also believes that the reduction in price would increase the number of registrations and says that the .name.ng domains which are now N500 is “easy to use, with any of the free webmail services like Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo.”
He also told the visiting NITDA Acting DG about some made by NIRA to deepen the activities of its Academy.

According to him, Mr Sikiru Shehu was appointed the Dean of the Academy while Mohammed Rudman is Director of Studies. On the other hand, Edith Udeagu, Chief Operating Officer of NIRA, now doubles as Registrar of the NIRA Academy.
The NIRA President also said that apart from the AFRINIC INRM training organised by NIRA, the Academy will mount a Track on Domain Name and Hosting at the forthcoming Nigeria Network Operators Group Training coming up in October 2016.

NIRA’s plan to give back to the society, through the Ndukwe Kalu Foundation (NKF) set up in memory of its Pioneer President, late Ndukwe Kalu, is hoped to promote the DNS space in Nigeria.
The Foundation will focus on Developing Entrepreneurs in the Domain Name System (DNS) space and promote Child Online Protection to make the Internet safer for the Nigerian child.
He promised to lead NIRA to visit a couple of high profile Internet Content generators in Nigeria, to further deepen the reach of the .ng brand.
